LEAP is an acronym or abbreviation of the Linux Enthusiasts And
Professionals,
with the attached -CF for Central Florida...

Steve Litt, if you confuse your GOLUG members, the OrlandoBSD folks, and
subscribers to all the various lists, by holding a "Virtual" LEAP
Installfest, you do a total dis-service to ALL of the mentioned groups.

I would strongly advise that none of us muddy the waters.

I have deep respect for the lists, meets, fests, that ALL of the groups
host, but,
besides never disparaging any, I also do not hold any meets in their
names or use their acronyms.

What do you think?

Also, should an install fest be solely about the geeks hiding in their
own screens, on
web connections, or, should we be the guru's for the noobs and others,
who hunger for knowledge?

What we have right now, at Install Fests, are real installs,
troubleshooting, help for visitors, and
short Q & A sessions... a real learning environment.

Fact is, there are usually some 17 to 30 folks who attend the
LEAP-CF.ORG installfest, to help others,
to get a free DVD of a new FOSS OS, or, to learn about computing.

Many of them would love to attend your events, and/or any others in the
CF area.

The focus of LEAP-CF.ORG installfests has never been to get onto the
Internet, but, rather, to load up computers, after doing minor repairs
or touch ups to the physical hardware, and to:
1. help folks to get more experience with little to no sweat equity.
2. introduce new FOSS to new/old folks
3. distribute "free" software, hardware, goodies.
4. meet and greet everyone, in person, and build a community.

Holding conflicting events does much to split the community, instead of
everyone being available to
attend all the activities, they must choose one, or another...

Like shooting ourselves in the foot...

In the near future, I do not see any rich benefactor stepping up to :
1. install 300+ feet of broad band underground cables (Quotes have run
up to $2,000.00)
2. contracting for broadband internet services (About $200.00 per month)

Some attendees who have Hot Spots, do provide up to 10 connections. no
guarantees they will be there.

Thank you for your comments, but, none help solve anything. We are
seeking real solutions, for the long term. Hoping to see more
involvement by more folks, at more venues. All constructive comments
are welcome, on these forums.

Patrick Berry...
