‘The Tempest’ takes to the streets!

Join the Global Grooves cast to celebrate a classic Shakespeare play retold through global carnival traditions. Featuring influences from the Devil Mas of Trinidad and movement and rhythm inspired by Afro-Brazilian deities, the literary characters of Caliban, Prospero and Miranda will own the Liverpool streets for this exciting annual Carnival event. We hope to see you there to witness and revel in the preview of this ambitious new Carnival piece. The parade kicks off tomorrow night at 8pm (Saturday 16th July) with celebrations carrying on late into the night. A static version of the show will also be performed at Manchester Jazz Festival on Sunday 24th July at 2:15pm in Albert Square.

‘Future Leaders’ film release!

Thanks to the documentary mastery of John Grey, our Future Leaders 2015/16 documentary is now live in the digital world! We are so proud to have met this year’s amazing cohort of 13-25 year old emerging young artists, working alongside a team of experienced international artists. We look forward to seeing the fruits of their efforts as their network continues to blossom over the coming years. Enjoy the insights and positive vibes of those involved in the course, and help us spread the good word by sharing the video with your network. We hope to announce a third year of the project for 2017, watch this space!

What else have we been up to?

The Vale - Our community arts centre venture ‘The Vale’ has been going from strength to strength with hundreds of visitors and weekly participants coming along to develop their confidence and Carnival skills whilst enjoying a social brew and a weekly get together.  Our new schedule of cinema, workshops, and arts activity will commence in September 2016, following the venue completing a successful three-month stint as our Carnival Mas Camp! www.the-vale.co.uk

See us perform! Global Grooves have been getting out an about performing as part of a number of Carnival events around the Northwest. Following a brilliant weekend of parade performances at the Trafford Centre alongside our friends at Cabasa Carnival Arts, look out for us at one of our summer outings at Oldham Flower Festival (16th July), Liverpool One (22nd July), and Manchester Mela (30th July).

The Incredible Plastic Street Band
– Between April and July 2016, our sister organisation Bangdrum CIC have been delivering a revolutionary new youth music project around in Tameside. This incredible youth brass ensemble has offered high quality, accessible and fun music opportunities to 30 inspired young musicians who are now in love with their instruments! With the support of pbone plastic trombones and trumpets - and funded by the National Foundation for Youth Music - the project has taken on a life of its own!  They are currently fundraising to continue their path to musical stardom, and every pound counts. Thank you in advance for your interest and support.
