So this sunday Billy, Liz, and I will be running in the afc half
marathon. So get out there and cheer us on! This will be Billy's long
run to date! It's gonna be awesome. See you out there. -stu

We rocked AFC this past sunday! Billy finished his first half, lookin'
good at 2hrs 48mins. Liz and I came in 2hrs 22 mins. It was a good run
but I would not do the race again. The course support was not so good
and while we did get a medal and a tech shirt I think $80 was a bit
steep. Have a good night -stu

Hi Stu,

Congratulations to you all!

Why did you think the race support was bad? I thought it was pretty decent, with more water stations than I could use. The "rain-forest" spray areas were also pretty cool. I did think the after race energy bars and food wasn't very good, but other than that I thought it was pretty comparable to the other two halfs (I did the triple crown this year). The course wasn't as scenic as LJHM or Carlsbad, but, the weather was probably the best one could ask for, for this time of year.

For those considering running the triple crown or any of the SD halfs, I have race reports on my blog, below.

Cheers!

That's awesome that you did the triple crown! How did you do? I
haven't done la jolla or carlsbad so I don't know what they're like. i
guess I would compare it to the rock n roll marathon which is about
the same price. I guess it seemed to me that they should have fruit
and gatorade at the aid stations. It felt to me like a self supporting
training run and I like a run that has quite a bit more support. The
was no value for me. I'll stop bitchin' now. It wasn't all bad. It was
the first race Liz and I did together and it was awesome to do that
and to see billy get to the finish. So it ended up being a good day. I
hope to see you at the next potluck. -stu

Yeah, the triple crown was fun... I would definitely recommend it to anyone that likes running. I didn't do too bad on the races... In carlsbad in was 1:52, in La Jolla I was 1:52 again (a few seconds slower), but that was a tougher course. AFC was relatively easier than La Jolla, so, I was hoping to do better, but I dropped to 1:58, because, I had hurt one foot while hiking/ camping the week before and had ITB/ tendon issues on the other, that kept me from training, in the weeks before.
But, overall a very nice experience. As I mentioned before, I have detailed training logs and race reports on my blog, below.

Reading about the various ultra endurance events you guys do, definitely inspires me and I look forward to meeting you guys sometime.
Also, I have a group of friends that I run, hike, camp, climb, bike. etc... with and we have a couple groups on FB (started them, before I knew this group :), that we use, to co-ordinate stuff. Anyone welcome to join.
