Hello Track Fans,
The first round of the NCAA Championships are upon us and today we have a first glance at the entries for the NCAA West Regional Championships. Click here for the men, and click here for the women.
The top five in each event automatically advance to the NCAA Championships June 10-13 at Fayetteville, Ark., and while there will be some at-large bids handed out next week, the Duck competitors would rather not leave things up to fate. A strong showing from the home crowd in previous years that the Ducks have hosted the regional bolstered Oregon's NCAA contingent; let's hope for a similar showing this year.
The Ducks have at least one competitor in nearly every event.
Also, bear in mind that this will be your last chance to see 13 seniors competing for Oregon at Historic Hayward Field, including four-time four-time NCAA champion Galen Rupp and 2008 NCAA javelin champ Rachel Yurkovich. Rupp is entered in the 1,500 meters and the 5,000 meters, while Yurkovich, naturally, will be in the javelin. Other seniors making their final Hayward appearance include 2009 Pac-10 champion Chris Winter (men’s steeplechase), All-American Shadrack Biwott (men’s 5,000 meters), All-American Scott Wall (men’s 5,000 meters), All-American Dana Buchanan (women’s steeplechase), 2009 Pac-10 runner-up Lucy Cridland (women’s discus), Ashley McCrea (women’s javelin), James Withers (men’s 1,500 meters), Zoe Nelson (women’s 5,000 meters), Megan Maloney (women’s hammer), Steven Johnson (men’s hammer) and potentially Leah Worthen (women’s 4x400 relay).
