Hi,

With the dragonfly season winding down I thought I would post a couple of things before there is nothing left to post. On Wednesday, 2 October I was cutting the lawn in a Brantford backyard when I flushed a dragonfly that flew up and quickly down over a tall wood fence. I suspected by the size, manner of flight and of course location that it was an Arrow Clubtail. I got up on chair to see over the fence and saw this female Arrow Clubtail that I managed a few poor cellphone photos of.

Not an usual sighting in Brantford, and this backyard was only 150m away from the Grand River where this species is not uncommon. They are often seen well into October. Although this species is a member of the Stylurus genus also called hanging clubtails, this species commonly perches like a skimmer, on the ground or on the top of plants.

On Friday October 4th near Middleport, Brant County I saw three Wandering Gliders flying about. Not unusual I am sure for the date. What was odd was that there was a pair in tandem flying over a flooded field. This should not seem unusual as it obviously happens with regularity but I cannot remember ever seeing this species in tandem. Oh well, now I have.
