Dear Friends.
Namaskar.
Last year (2011) in the month of August we had a Seminar on Harmony of Science
& Religion at OPJIT, Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, India. This program
was attended by many faculties and students of OPJIT. A short report of
this program appeared in 'Quarterly News Bulletin of OPJIT' and can be
viewed at: http://www.opjit.org/Quest/Quest5.pdf
Youtube links for the videos of this Seminar on Harmony of Science
& Religion at OPJIT can be found below:
Modern educational
institutions are providing education to make the students believe that
they are nothing but this body and hence provide means to do only
bodily benefits. In the modern science, there are several atheistic
theories which are being taught to the innocent students from the very
beginning of their lives and hence they receive the training to become
a well trained atheist to ruthlessly exploit the nature. Darwin’s
theory of objective evolution is the crest of such atheistic theories
in modern science. Ignoring all empirical evidences Darwin dogmatically
proposed that first life originated from a chance combination of
chemicals and it gradually evolved into all the species that we witness
today. As a consequence, ignoring consciousness, soul and God modern
scientific understanding concludes that matter is the source of
everything. Considering life as a mere combination of molecules,
educated people in science do not hesitate to grossly disrespect life
and nature to its highest degree. The grave consequences of this most
dangerous atheistic education has already started threatening the
entire human civilization in the form of environment pollution, highly
stressful mechanistic lifestyle, increased suicide rate, terrorism and
the list is neither complete nor ever-ending. Hence, it is duty of
everyone to first learn and practice the most essential teachings of
divine scriptures like Srimad Bhagavad-Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, and
also help others with these divine revelations. The Supreme Personality
of Godhead Lord Sri Krishna from the very beginning states in Srimad Bhagavad-Gita
(BG) that we are not this body, we are the soul.
dehino 'smin
yatha dehe kaumaram yauvanam jara
tatha
dehantara-praptir dhiras tatra na
muhyati (BG 2.13)
Translation:
As the embodied soul continuously passes through the bodily changes of
childhood, youth and old age, it similarly attains another body at
death. The wise are not deluded by this.
Lord Sri Krishna further explains His own position:
bhoktaram
yajna-tapasam sarva-loka-mahesvaram
suhrdam sarva-bhutanam jnatva mam santim
rcchati (BG 5.29)
Translation:
I am the enjoyer and objective of the sacrifices performed by persons
of action, and of the austerities performed by persons of knowledge. I
am Narayana, the indwelling monitor of all planes of life, the
worshippable Supreme Personality who awards liberation. I am Krishna,
the well-wisher of all and the dear friend of the devotees. One who
knows Me thus, attains the bliss of knowing his own original divine
identity.
Srimad Bhagavad-Gita
introduces the topics “Science of the Soul” and
“Science of God”. But the question is, how we can convey this most
essential message to
scientists and scholars of modern times? Present age is a scientific
age and sometimes there is criticism that Vedantic scholars are not
sufficiently learned, especially the brahmanas. The
scientists and
scholars of modern times do not understand the Vedantic language very
well and it is the biggest obstacle that our Vedantic scholars face,
while approaching the educated section of the society. A unique
educational system is most essential to help the society with a
scientific education of Vedantic conclusions. With such a goal in
heart, under the guidance of our Siksha Gurudev Sripad Bhakti Madhava
Puri Maharaja, Ph.D. the devotee scientists of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat
Math are traveling to different universities and colleges all around
the year to educate the society with a scientific understanding of
Vedantic teachings.
