Dear Oceanside parents and players,
As
most of you are aware Aaron Loy, (La Costa Canyon '13) is in the midst of
a
grueling recovery process after a deadly bout with an extremely aggressive
strain
of Neisseria (bacterial) meningitis for which there is not an
approved
US vaccine. The meningitis led to sepsis (blood infection) and
disseminated
intravascular coagulation (DIC) which caused severe
complications.
Antibiotics have since eradicated the meningitis, however
Aaron's
body is valiantly fighting to recover from the related
complications.
While meningococcal disease is often fatal, doctors were able
to
save Aaron's life but unfortunately had to amputate both his lower legs.
Aaron
now faces a long and challenging road to recovery.
As a
player at La Costa Canyon HS, Aaron was a 3-year starter for the
Mavericks
and a 1st team All-CIF selection in San Diego in 2012 and a
two-time
1st team All-League selection. In 2012, he was a starting
midfielder
for the LCC team that went 22-1 and finished #18 in Inside
Lacrosse's
National Poll. That year we played in 3 overtime games including
the
CIF championship game. Loy scored the overtime goal in each of those
games
and was by far our team's most valuable player! Aaron was also a
member
of the Alpha (formerly Mavericks) lacrosse club along with the West
Coast
Starz.
Aaron
is a very special person and has touched many lives. We will be
holding
a one day lacrosse shootout for Aaron on Saturday, December 28th at
La
Costa Canyon HS. This is a great way to show your support for Aaron and
his
family while doing something that he loves, playing lacrosse! There are
games
for all ages of players and everyone is welcome to participate.
