About the November 6th Call

Also, come to the call and share your state reports as well as activities you have been involved in or are upcoming in your area. You can find the complete meeting agenda here for the call.

Economic and Social Justice Team Mission
The enormous wealth disparity between the top 1% and the rest of America is an unsustainable economic and social injustice. We are committed to an economic recovery that employs all those willing and able, that houses all those needing shelter, and that imposes the cost based on the ability to pay. To find out more about our team, please visit us here.

Legislation

  • HR 377 - Paycheck Fairness Act

  • HR 2821 - American Jobs Act of 2013

PDA Letter Drops
Next Letter Drop: November 20th
Letter drops take place on the third Wednesday of every month, and the purpose is to make our elected representatives in the Congress aware of progressive legislation and to educate them on it. Some folks just drop off the letter, while others schedule appointments to speak to staffers in their  home district offices. Some go as individuals, some go as groups, and some go with a coalition. How ever you decide to do it, we'd love to get a picture of you bringing them the letter.
For more information about the letter drops, please go here: Educate Congress Page. On the 1st of each month you will find on this page a letter you can download and customize, information on the legislation, as well as information on how to do a letter drop. It's simple, but it makes a difference.

PDA Round Table
On the call  we will also share information about PDA’s Progressive Roundtable that convened on October 9th on Capitol Hill with members of Congress, featuring Rep. Jim McGovern (MA-02) and Marc Pocan (WI-02), social justice advocacy groups, and progressive labor unions. If you missed it, you can view the recording by clicking here.

As Colorlines reports, "The total cuts will amount to about a five percent reduction...

Congress pressed to pass Wall Street “Robin Hood tax”
After more than 200 advocates of the "Robin Hood tax" marched up Constitution Ave. here today to the Longworth House Office Building, lawmakers heard the vice president of the European Parliament, Ani Podimata, describe a solution for raising hundreds of billions of dollars a year - a tiny tax on financial speculation now being implemented across Europe. The financial transaction tax amounts to only fractions of a penny on the dollar value of every stock, bond and derivatives trade - five cents per $100. Estimates of its potential return to the...
