I have a ton of 3D CAD that did in 1992-1999 and placed my 3D site
online with Superscape SRT back then with browser Plugin. I like to
import my existing 3D CAD world into OpenSim. What is then best route
people are taking to import 3D into OpenSim as I can export or convert
maybe to that method.

Are you talking about objects?  Furniture?  Desks?  Buildings?

What exactly are you trying to import?

There's a version of OpenSim called realXtend that natively supports import from most of the major CAD programs out there. However, the main SL-based browsers -- including all of the official browsers and the OpenSim optimized-ones like Hippo and Meerkat -- do not support the display of those objects, which are in mesh format.

You can still use those browsers to access realXtend worlds, but none of the imported objects will show up.

However, if you're able to dictate which browsers your users use, you can force them to use one of the two realXtend browsers (and their browsers are backwards-compatible with all the OpenSim and Second Life worlds).

A lot of architects are using realXtend this way.

There is also a mesh module for OpenSim that brings in some of this realXtend functionality into the standard OpenSim deployment, called modrex, but it has the same browser problems as the main realXtend.

Maria,

Thank you for your advise as I did the Google and found these
other browser and realXend was one looking at. I will have to convert
everything so will try near future.

To answer the previous reply, I build the complete Space 1999
Moonbase Alpha in CAD Ashlar-Vellum many years ago and exported to
personal server for VRML using Superscape SRT. The size works out to
be 16 Regions in OpenSim building, furniture. I know I will have to
rescript the doors and key pads as SRT had it's own programming code.
I think it will be a fairly easy script for touch pad to operate
doors.
