to Open RFID In Libraries Specification (ORILS)
Following Mark's example I have just uploaded a few documents that I
hope will be helpful. They are:
1. ISO 28560-1 draft standard. Part 1 of the standard lists all the
available fields in the new standard. Parts 2 and 3 deal with the
means by which these data may be encoded. The UK looks set to adopt
Part 2 but the fields in Part 1 are common to both methods (with a
single explained exception).
The use of the standard will allow libraries to choose different
hardware and software from different suppliers (something they can
only do with great difficulty at the moment) and will ensure that any
new services they may develop with their LMS or any other applications
will be transferable.
2. The BIC "Guide". This is available elsewhere on the web but I've
added it to ORILS for ease of access.
3. BIC/CILIP report of the Library Stakeholders Meeting held on
January 19th 2009. This was the meeting that agreed to adopt the new
standard.
