This Sunday we light the third Advent candle, the
Candle of Joy. This is Gaudete Sunday, a Sunday of joy anticipated, a Sunday of
faith yet to be realized. In the middle of Advent (and in the middle of Lent) a
Sunday has been set aside for laughter, for joy. It is a Sunday for
joculatores upsalienses.
Scott Nyhart and I have some joy for you born of
confusion. We have an electrical outlet in the pulpit that has shorted, Rather
than electrocute a preacher, we discussed the advantages of fixing it to
accept a 3-prong plug:
-One could preach from a
laptop.
-Leave it alone and have roast
preacher for lunch.
-One could plug in a bright
light and spotlight sleeping congregation members.
-Connect a fog machine so the
atmosphere would match the sermon.
-Get an automated lift machine
for Karen Nyhart.
-Install electric airbags in the
pulpit for those Sundays the sermon dives off a cliff.
-Karoake Sunday (formerly known
as Laetare, also joyful).
-A nice Xbox connection point
for when video screens are installed.
-Easy place to plug in a
blinking Christmas sole.
-Install a pulpit electric
fireplace
-Replace the pulpit Bible with
an iPad.
-Install inconspicuous fans to
highlight Fabio hair.
Fallen angels were grounded in the
Bible!
Have a Merry Gaudete Sunday. Thank you,
Scott.
