Well, things happen in surprising ways. Pam Harris
chooses to pull back from responsibilities at Old Mission in order to devote
time and energy to her "real" job with hospice and her family (one husband and
now 2 daughters in two different colleges). Then Frank Reichart decides to
retire (again). For me, the retirement date is hazy on the horizon. The last
Sunday in June, June 24, is the retirement date.
As I wrote in my letter to the congregation, we are
still working and our church has much ministry to occupy us. It is not ever a
time to coast in the ministry and mission of Jesus Christ. First up, the
district superintendent will be meeting with the Staff/Parish committee and
others as preparation is made for the appointment of a new senior minister
effective the first Sunday of July. We have been talking with a person who will
be our new visitation pastor. Announcement will be made soon.
There are no plans for further staff changes so
don't be waiting for a 4th shoe to drop. The one thing that is different right
now is a reminder that Frank is retired. My home phone number is
913-205-4688. The church is 913-262-1040.
Thank you and blessings to all of you for a
wonderful Christmas season. The church was beautiful. The music was incredible.
The spirit was moving.
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 22 and
we move quickly to Easter. In preparation I invite you again to
read Matthew 25:14-30. We will have to think
and then act.
