Hi all,

Many of you have expressed interest in scale size violins, and I get inquiries via email regularly about this. Recently I had a maker in the US offer to pay me some money to design scale size Modular Fiddles.

We had some back and forth, and I offered to cover half of the design expenses if he were able to cover the other half (and we agreed to release the design open source). In the end, I was looking for about $1,000 per size.

He is able to contribute $150 per size, which, while a bit short of the full amount, is a considerable contribution! I realized that perhaps there were a few of you who might also be interested in contributing. What do you say?

If I can collect >$500 for a given size, I think I can make it happen (probably it will just have to wait until the holiday season when work is slow). At $1000 per size it's a sure bet.

Please share any thoughts you have, and if you'd like to contribute to the effort, you may post here or email me directly, Da...@openfabpdx.com.

Hope you all are well, staying sane, safe, and healthy.

Hi all,

Good news -- I have completed a scale size 3/4 Modular Fiddle!! I strung it up this morning and it's been settling in nicely. You can find the 3/4 files on Thingiverse. Thingiverse is being super buggy and I can't get the thing page set up correctly, but you should be able to download the STL files there now.

The only unique parts are the bridge and neck. You can use the body, pegbox, and tailpiece from the 4/4 Modular Fiddle.

A big thank you to those of you that sent me some dollars! I could not have set aside the time to do this without your support.

You may also notice that the first picture shows a guitar-style pegbox. That's also a new part, and I'll release it soon.
