Look to your left or look to your right. The person sitting next to
you is proof that the evolutionary process has developed something
innovative.
Is the point of the challenge to accomplish this 'quickly' i.e in the
lifetime of a researcher?

The point would be to demonstrate, in our lifetime, OEEI-QS. Don't
have to evolve people, just show that life or a system analogous to it
could conceivably, eventually evolve something of similar organized
complexity, by doing a few of the necessary steps. Also, don't forget
the quarantined system (QS) part. The people next to you may have
emerged in an unquarantined system.
