What is Global Citizenship?
The school will offer a program emphasis on inspiring and empowering students to become Global Citizens. Global Citizens are aware of and concerned for the health and well-being of humanity and the planet.
This emphasis includes Peace (non-violent resolution of conflicts); Justice (human rights for all); Understanding (we must learn to walk a mile in shoes of others); Sustainability (the protection of our natural environment, its resources, and responsible development); Diversity (tolerance, respect, and appreciation for humanity’s differences); Integrity (developing one’s moral compass) and Democratic Participation (the right to participate and express an opinion in one’s government and political process).
Odyssey’s Junior/Senior High School for Global Citizenship is a community of active learners and problem solvers who are engaged participants in a multidisciplinary and experiential approach to learning both in and outside of the classroom. Our school is committed to academic achievement at the highest standards.
Every year the school will offer a unique core learning experience such as a Bridge orientation program for middle school, a school-wide conference on a global issue of the students’ choice for high school, career shadowing, as well as national and international travel opportunities.
We will achieve our mission by:
· Creating a school culture based on high expectations for student learning and behavior;
· Designing our curriculum and core learning experiences around current events and international concerns;
· Making the curriculum interdisciplinary, interconnected and focused on global issues;
· Providing opportunities for students to learn and experience their learning inside and outside of the classroom;
· Offering multiple layers of support to our students.
· Implementing Common Core/Next Generation Sunshine State Standards into the classroom using creative, student driven lessons.
