Peter V. Catches (Zintkala Oyate), a 38th generation Lakota (Sioux)
Spotted Eagle Lakota medicine man will give a talk on the Seven Sacred
Rites of the Lakota and the symbolism behind many of the aspects of
these scared rites. These spiritual aspects are as relevant today as
they were in the past. Peter has conducted the Spotted Eagle Sundance
at his home on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota for
the past 30 years, the longest running sundance in Lakota Country. He
co authored, with his father, the book, 'Sacred Fireplace - The
Life and Teachings of a Lakota Medicine Man.' His father was Pete
Catches Sr., known and beloved by Indian people for bringing the
sundance back out to the people in the early 1960's while it was
still against the law. Peter also helped his father bring back the
Buffalo Sundance back to Sitting Bull's people. Peter has also
authored 'Seven Sacred Rites of the Lakota CD,' 'Realities
Within,' 'Lakota Language Book/CD,' 'Lakota Language
Workbook/CD-Book One,' and 'Lakota Language Workbook/CD-Book
Two.'
