Dear Rep. Meyer and Senator Foushee:
Please find attached the letter that my husband and I sent to the Orange County BOCC today. We are totally frustrated with the continually poor internet service that we receive in northern Orange County and we are asking the OCBOCC to use their current RFP as a vehicle to implement change.
Two years ago when the Open BroadBand Initiative was announced, we were hopeful that our internet service (DSL) would move technologically out of the prior century and into the current one. However, we have come to realize that the wireless technology that OBB employs is not feasible for a large part of our area due to the density of trees and the hills. Our only hope now is that there is an internet provider that is willing to participate in the RFP process and provide a creative solution for us. We have in fact asked Spectrum to submit a bid; we have not received a response from them to date.
So the purpose of my email is to implore both of you to support our need and fulfill the vision of rural broadband for all. This is especially important during these COVID times when we are all trying to keep our children educated and hold onto our jobs by working from home.
Please hear us,
Chris & Tom Gibson
