Hello,

My name is Lisandro Valdivia Saucedo and I am a resident of Hillsborough, North Carolina. I highly appreciate what you are doing for our county and for the resolution which was released last night, in response to these current national events. I feel it is a thoughtful attempt at addressing the epidemic of unchecked police violence against black folks in our country.

There is one important piece that I think was left out of the resolution, which also needs to be changed. Not only do we need to commit to dismantling structural and institutional racism throughout Orange County, but we also need to focus on defunding police forces, reallocating that money to other social programs that have been criminally neglected. This is a crucial component that protesting groups are advocating for, and I ask that you endorse this as well.

From the bottom of my heart, as a minority living in this county, I appreciate what the Board of County Commissioners has done in response to these events. I only plead with you to do more in order to continue following the right path to a more equal and safer life for all people, no matter what color . Thank you for taking the time to read my request and have a great rest of your day.
