Subject: Republicans' No. 1 Priority

 It may be a new year, but House Republicans are continuing their assault on the rights of women, all the while ignoring the No. 1 issue that the American people truly care about: jobs. My Republican colleagues have yet to even consider legislation that would create good-paying jobs and improve the economy like President Obama's "American Jobs Act" or my own legislation, the, "Humphrey Hawkins Full Employment and Training Act," ­ let alone call for a vote on them.

 Instead, my Republican colleagues¹ first legislative priority in 2014 has been the ³No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,² even though they know full well that such funding is already not permitted under federal law.

  Just last week, Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee - where I serve as the Ranking Democratic Member - held our first legislative meeting of the year on this bill that rolls back women¹s health care options.

  And Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor has called for a vote as early as next week on this unconscionable bill that even aims to prevent funding for abortions in cases of statutory rape and when a woman¹s health is endangered.

   Roe v. Wade has been the law of the land since 1973, but the Republicans in the House refuse to accept four decades of legal precedent.

  If we are ever going to return to a progressive path and move our country forward, I need your help in my fight against the Republicans¹ narrow-minded and mean-spirited agenda. Please contribute what you can to turn the tide.
