February 10 celebrates Classical Tuesdays' 10th
season!
In appreciation of these 10 years that the
Slavonian-American Benevolent Society has opened their
lovely hall for our concerts, we are featuring music of the
Croatian and the Balkan regions.
The Slavonian American Benevolent Society was organized in
1901, by a small group of immigrants. The
Slavonian Hall , built in 1906-7, quickly became the
central gathering place for food, singing, dancing and
companionship. The Hall is as vital as ever in the community
and Classical Tuesdays is very happy to use the hall
for our performances.
6:00pm “From Old Town, Dalmatia to Old Town, Tacoma...
and back again: An Ancestral Journey to Croatia"
Clare Petrich’s grandfather was born in Stari Grad (Old
Town) in 1880. He came to Tacoma at the age of 10. Clare’s
journey to Croatia in 2013 led her to the Archives in
Zagreb, the family home on the island of Hvar and to Bosnia,
the origin of a Petrich migration in the 1550s. Clare
Petrich runs Petrich Marine Dock on the Foss Waterway and is
President of the Port of Tacoma Commission.
7:00pm The women's a cappella group Dunava
will sing songs from the Balkan region. And Dave & the
Dalmatians will regale us with music, klapa,
from the Dalmatian coast.
