We will be convening Tuesday, June 20, at 12:30pm at City Hall (901 Bagby) for the public comment session. If you are interested in testifying, please fill out this form to access talking points and more resources.

The rally, however, will be held Wednesday, June 21, on the steps of City Hall after City Council's vote---expected before noon, so plan for 11:30. Whether we celebrate a "yes" or reaffirm our commitment to fighting for justice after a "no," we will be building power together! Think the Texas Capitol on the last day of this year's legislative session...

Thanks for your attention, and I hope to see you next week!

Hannah

Dear friend,

Thank you again for your support of NARAL Pro Choice Texas' and the Lilith Fund's Repro Power agenda for Houston. I am excited to get to work with you to advance reproductive justice in our home city!

The recently passed Senate Bill 4, which will require local police in Texas to cooperate with federal immigration authorities and allow officers to inquire about the immigration status of anyone they detain, has already added to a climate in which victims and witnesses do not report crimes and undocumented immigrants forego reproductive health care and other crucial services for fear of deportation. This is not the future we want for Houston's families and communities.

Since then, Mayor Turner has left it up to City Council to vote on whether Houston will join other major Texas cities in a lawsuit against the state to bring down SB 4. Now we need to put pressure on our council members to vote YES and take a stance against this harmful bill!

A coalition of grassroots organizations will unite to do just that this coming Tuesday, June 20, at 12:30pm in front of City Hall. Please join us to rally (we'll have posters!) and fill up the Council's public comment session, which starts at 1:30pm. If you would like to testify, sign up by calling the City Secretary at 832.393.1100 or sending an email to cityse...@houstontx.gov.

Regardless, be sure to call your own district's and all at-large City Council members and demand that they vote YES to stop SB 4 by suing the state and protecting families of color from racial profiling, violations of constitutional rights, and the loss of local control over public safety. This, too, is reproductive justice.

Fighting with you,
