DS Software Sales Hit 100 Million In Japan New data revealed by weekly
chart compilers Media Create, as translated by consumer website IGN,
shows that total Nintendo DS software sales in Japan have now passed
the 100 million unit mark in the console’s home territory.
The milestone figure was reached in just three years and five months -
compared to four years and three months for the PlayStation 2. Other
data revealed by Media Create shows that 922 Nintendo DS titles have
been released in Japan so far, of which twenty-one have sold more than
one million units.
All of the top ten selling games are published by Nintendo themselves
or affiliate The Pokemon Company. The number one selling game is New
Super Mario Bros. with a total of 5,174,163 units sold so far. The
game is still at number twenty in the current software sales charts,
despite being originally released almost two years ago.
All the other titles have enjoyed similar longevity, with the second
best-selling title being More Brain Training (aka Brain Age 2). The
two-and-a-half-year-old title is currently at number forty-eight in
the charts with 4,835,159 units sold to date.
The third highest-selling title is Animal Crossing: Wild World
(current chart position: twenty-two) on 4,693,662 units, followed by
Brain Training (aka Brain Age) on 3,771,440 units and Mario Kart DS
(current chart position: sixteen) on 3,042,753 units.
Pokemon Diamond (current chart position: forty-five) has sold
3,005,505 units and Pokemon Pearl 2,490,564. Combined sales of the two
variants of what is essentially the same game total 5,496,069 units -
exceeding the total of New Super Mario Bros.
The remaining top ten best-selling games are English Training DS on
2,216,322 units, Mario Party DS (current chart position: nineteen) on
1,706,506 units and Big Brain Academy on 1,654,285 units.
