Thanks for sharing. San Francisco parking meters generate approximately $50 million to $55 million annually, with over 23,000 meters in play. The system uses demand-responsive pricing, with some high-demand spots reaching over $10 per hour. It's likely that this revenue stream breeds even more innovation with the likely outcome being even more revenue!

If I remember right, parking revenues pay for the bus system (Muni). SF is an island of walkability in a sea of freeways, and they don't control BART or the bridges, so they use the control they have (parking) to discourage driving the whole way in.
