This is the wonderful outcome that we all enjoyed talking about at the last TAG meeting!

When road projects like this are implemented, there are now many studies based on real-life experiences in cities and towns that indicate "traffic evaporation" is the most likely outcome. Traffic actually decreases by 10% to 15%, and neighborhood streets are not significantly affected.

Whether it's Washington Street in Newton or Great Plain Avenue in Needham town center, when the two-lane option is coupled with the likelihood that it will result in a decrease in traffic, and even reduce diversions to neighborhood streets, then there is simply no valid argument against it.

In Needham, not only does the proposed two-lane option improve walkability and vitality of the town center, but it also adds additional on-street parking. This should be the nirvana of any town planner or business owner!
