Nahanton Street Pedestrian Improvement Project - Public Meeting

Newton's Transportation Department has announced a major project, funded by a state grant and Opus mitigation funds, to improve pedestrian access/safety in the Nahanton St/Wells Ave area. The nearby Nahanton and Cutler parks and the Blue Heron trails along the Charles River need to be easier and safer to access.

There are some interesting things to think about this project including the proposed sidewalk being on the wrong side for the most usage...at least it was as of the description preview we had on an MAPC ride last year...it would be good to see the latest connectivity options especially as vehicle speeds through here may mean the sidewalk may get more mixed bike/ped usage than other locations.

A bit of careful review. I’d also like to see some pavement/road surface markers to get WB cyclists from the sidewalk on the west side across the driveway to Starbuck (Close to the blue bike station) and back onto the CR. Very unclear. Might 311 that some time. I have some photos somewhere .. now that Ned has help.
