On 9/30/19, at 7:17p.m., Newton Police received a report of subjects engaged in a fight within the County Park.
Upon arrival, it was determined that two subjects identified as Douglas Hill, age 23, of Sparta Avenue, Newton and Johnathan Figueroa, age 24, of Mill Street, Newton, had become involved in a physical altercation within the County Park which resulted with Figueroa brandishing a pocket knife and recklessly cutting Hill in the face. Subsequently, Hill sustained a minor laceration to his left cheek and was transported to the Newton Medical Center by the Newton First Aid Squad where he received 3 stitches for his injury.
As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that both subjects were fighting over their relationship with a female acquaintance.
Douglas Hill was determined to be the instigator of the altercation and will be charged with:
N.J.S. 2C:33-2 Disorderly Conduct (Petty Disorderly Persons)
Figueroa was charged with the following offenses for causing Hill’s injury:
N.J.S. 2C:39-4D Poss.of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (3rd Degree)
N.J.S. 2C:12-1B(3) Aggravated Assault (4th Degree)
Pocket knife in question was located and retained as evidence. Case pending court.
