Arrest - Simple Assault ( 4 Counts), Disorderly Conduct, Open Container

On 6/8/19 at 5:09p.m., Newton Police were called to the area of Spring Liquors for a reported fight outside the business.

 

Upon arrival, patrols arrived and observed a male who was identified as Vincent Scardino Jr, age 49, of Andover Township, to be highly intoxicated.

 

Subsequent investigation revealed that while in his intoxicated state, Scardino had assaulted (3) females and a male, some of whom were complaining of minor injuries.  All 4 victims indicated that they were physically assaulted by Scardino after he had been yelling derogatory names at the females and making inappropriate statements towards them.  None of the victims were familiar with Scardino.  

 

As a result, the victims were treated at the scene by the Newton First Aid Squad and all declined to be transported to the Newton Medical Center for further treatment.

 

Scardino was taken into custody and an open container of rum was located inside his bag.  He was processed and charged with the following:

N.J.S. 2C:12-1a(1)  Simple Assault  (4 counts)  (Disorderly Persons)

N.J.S. 2C:33-2a(1)  Disorderly Conduct.            (Disorderly Persons)

 

Scardino was also served with a 4X9 Complaint for Open Container, municipal ordinance 49-6. He was released with a mandatory court appearance in Newton Municipal Court on 06/25/2019 at 9:00 am.
