Before NLR there was - and it appears that there still is Nonscholae. It was started when Australian State Education Departments started censoring Web2. I think we should watch this group, if it revives I think we should move to it and grow their numbers.

Here is a progression in thinking and doing, which is happening around us all the time:

Save the children
Censor the adults
Make money from passive consumers
Treat adults like children
Fascist governments who use terror or the threat of terror against their citizens
Proprietary institutions who accommodate fascism, eg. Yahoo, MicroSoft, Google

I'd see a need to broaden it. Although any organisational structure or loose network can help I'm reluctant to spend any more energy on Nonschloae due to its hitting a wall so rapidly last time

The issue however is v. important IMO

--Agree, although there is no manifesto yet, it's an reactive political
issue, and my common sense tells me to advocate conservatism in what we
advocate to counter the climate of fear about children using web2.0 I
see promulgated in mainstream media. The smh published this at weeked:

Am getting together with a group of students today, setting up a blog
and flickr account, will ask them what they think about the risks, what
they think should be in a charter, manifesto. Am more interested in
their voice on what is acceptible not what I think, and in particular
will ask them about your post to THED.

I can just imagine the raised eyebrows from the title of the post
alone...is is appropriate to post?I don't think so but have seen no
objection from the group, I do think you could have chosen something
else in that it does not help with the perception of others who are
weary of the the big bad open internet and won't get the article on
getting laid,with web2.0 ahem in an educational context ;-). But with
the beauty of networked learnig I discovered some info about digital
rights in ireland from the blog.
