Hi List,

wrt news: http://thehimalayantimes.com/kathmandu/np-starts-automated-fingerprint-identification-system/

I wonder , how many fingerprint authentication system available in
market can be bypassed by the following technique. The easiest, will
be to copy fingerprint of public figures.

A person finger print 'maybe' unique but it can be duplicated, copied
or faked ( depending on the intel / requirement) . It can be used to
establish connections but should only be relied on case-to-case basis
as a conclusive piece of evidence. Same with DNA / evidence.

studies needs to be conducted of large populations to find how many
sources might share the same or similar fingureprint features (when
partial etc). For every forensic science method, results should
indicate the level of uncertainty in the measurements made, and
studies should be conducted that enable these values to be estimated,
the report says.
