Disk Cache Node: How to use

If you have a heavy processing stream and need to cache portions of your tree, do you connect the disk cache node to the end of that stream? Then play the time while the caching is being built and then turn off the node. Or do you press the precalc button to cache the effects to drive and leave it active?

Indeed the DiskCache node must be attached to the end of the tree that you want to cache. If you use the precalc button, it will pre-render all frames of that branch at a full scale. After that you can freely zoom in/out for all frames since they are all in the cache.
However if you don’t press the “pre-cache” button, only the frames that are requested while you drag the timeline playhead or change something will be computed, and most likely it will not be at full-scale. This means that if you zoom in, it is likely to re-compute the frame at a higher scale (= higher quality) to fit the zoom level
