A few years ago we (at Simone Weil CW) began organizing an initiative with Notre Dame Federal Credit Union, where folks
from a participating parish or community can make zero interest loans, evaluating/approving and guaranteeing from within the community.
We call this the Living Communion initiative, and we talk about the
lending under the auspices of redeeming and preventing precarious debt,
and we teach a class called Liturgy and Communion Economy to vivify the
relevant context from Scripture, liturgy, etc.
So,
we have a couple information sessions coming up on 3/26 & 3/30 for people and especially parish communities
that are at least interested. When we first reached out to parishes about this, pastors (understandably) wanted proof that it works, so we've been piloting this model within the Simone Weil House extended community for the past 3+ years. It works!
We are doing the class in April, for the Easter season, and after that we hope to work with a small cohort of
parishes/communities who want to join the initiative. We currently have one parish
trained and another in the process.
We hope you can join and let folks in your associated church communities know about it. Invite your pastor and parish council!
Peace
Emma, Bert and the Simone Weil CW community
