Christ is born, Glorify Him! Christ is come from heaven, Go and meet Him! Christ is on earth, Arise to Him!

Dear friends,

It was these lines from the Eastern Nativity hymn that inspired this year's Christmas card of Christ Emmanuel. This drawing of the Christ is based on Pope Francis's favorite icon of Mary with Christ -- Salus Populi Romani, Protectress of the Roman People -- which tradition holds was painted by St. Luke himself. I was drawn to drawing this particular representation of the Christ child because of his lively face and gesture that reaches down to us in the sign of peace.

In the top left, the hand of God reaches down from the heavens, offering the same sign of peace. These paired gestures remind us of Jesus' words in the Gospel of John: "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

What better way to spend Black Friday? Let’s gather together for Thanksgiving leftovers, hot cocoa, and a viewing of the movie. We will call attention to its interweaving of familial, communal, and economic themes, and how it showcases the necessity of Christ-patterned action in order for mutuality to actually work. You may know, It’s a Wonderful Life is a major inspiration for our redemptive lending project!

12/5 - Advent Evening of Reflection on Jubilee: 6-8:30pm Dinner & Reflection

Join us for our annual evening of prayer and reflection exploring how the Advent Gospels highlight the economic and communal dimensions of “prepar[ing] the way of the Lord.” A fitting way to conclude this year of Jubilee!

12/19 - Lessons & Carols: 6pm Potluck, 6:30pm Service

A beautiful service in which the story of salvation history is told through short passages from Scripture (the nine “lessons”) and carols.
