Greetings from Pennsyltucky!
The Harrisburg Catholic Worker community invites all Catholic Workers to join us in two events this May to stand in solidarity with our immigrant brothers and sisters.
In cooperation with immigrant support networks in our
area, we are hosting a prayer vigil outside of
FCI Lewisburg on
Saturday, May 16 at 3 p.m.
Last summer, FCI Lewisburg contracted with ICE to open up a separate ICE detention center within, but separate from the federal prison. One of our friends was part of the first group of detainees transferred to Lewisburg, and the conditions at Lewisburg are reportedly worse than those at Moshannon Detention Center, which was where our friend had previously been detained.
Starting on May 16, two members of our community are going to be on a pilgrimage from FCI Lewisburg to Harrisburg to raise awareness among our neighbors that ICE detainees are being held in our community and to march for their freedom.
If you would like to join us for the May 16 vigil or the pilgrimage, OR if you know someone in Pennsylvania who would like to join, OR you have an idea of how to spread the word, please be in touch at harrisburgcw at gmail dot com.
God bless you all and all your work of bringing forth a new society in the shell of the old. 🌱
Peace,
Renée & James
