Our van
window and a good number of windows at Mapendo House were purposefully broken
recently. We are thankful that no one was injured as a result. We definitely
see an increase in desperation and anger in the past few months. Sadly, this
has led to more unhealthy behaviors like drug use, dependence on abusive men
and alcoholism. We ask for your continued prayers for those we take in and for
the safety of our houses.
Last year we replaced our front door with a more secure one after an abusive
ex-boyfriend tried to force his way into Casa Maria on several occasions. We
also have been having some leaks in our roof at Casa Maria and will need to
have it replaced soon. If you can help us with this cost, it would be
graciously appreciated . ----Don Timmerman
Also, we are looking for someone who can keep track of mental health appointments and treatment schedules for specific moms in our houses. It would involve communicating with the moms and forwarding us the info. If this sounds like something you'd be able to help us with, please send us message. Thanks! 💜 Amada

One of our devoted volunteers, Reda Moore, who took care of our clothing shed for many years has passed over. The funeral will be Feb. 7 from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Golden Gate Funeral Home, 5665 N Teutonia Ave. She has helped so many of us. May she now rest in peace. Condolences may be sent to her daughter, Sheri Moore, 2802 N. 41st St. 53210.

On March 11 Alex would have been 100 years young.In 1970 he was assigned to close St. Bens due to loss of parishioners. Simultaneously the fledgling Meal Program was looking for a new home and he gave the "yes" to having it at St. Bens after which it began to flourish as did the Sundy faith community.
NOTES FROM 21ST St. The last couple of weeks have been difficult. The actions of the new president were alarming. I did not hear many voices in higher places speaking up. Then I heard a single voice giving credence to my concerns. Bishop Mariann Budde lovingly, but firmly, speaking directly to President Trump. She asked lovingly, but firmly, to show mercy to immigrants and to the LGBTQ community. Knowing full well what she might suffer by speaking truth to power. She gave us an example by word and deed how we need to speak out for any group that is oppressed. Her voice was soft but her words were powerful. May we all have to courage to speak out lovingly and clearly when needed. Peace, Roberta

Settler violence has escalated throughout the West Bank, where since October of 2023, settlers have been issued arms, uniforms and vehicles by the Israel military and now enjoy complete impunity and the support of the military. Armed settlers are carrying out pogroms on villages and cities, and know that they face no consequences for this campaign of terror. Violence has killed nearly 800 people since October of 2023, and injured hundreds more.
The people of Masafer Yatta have welcomed nonviolent international accompaniment and protective presence in their villages and homes since 2004, and it is a huge privilege to to spend time with them as they struggle to care for their animals and remain on the land that sustains them. I am extremely grateful for your care and generosity to them, and your support of my travel to be with them in this very dark time. I hope you will hold these people in your mind in the days and months to come, and not allow their suffering to become invisible.
