The Simone Weil House (Portland, OR) is once again offering its free, online course on "Liturgy and Communion Economy" this Easter season (4/16-5/14). This course will focus on Scriptural patterns that can inform our practical attempts to “live as the body of Christ”, such as Sabbath Jubilee, covenant, and redemption. With this in mind, we especially encourage groups (parishes, Catholic Worker houses, etc) to join us!
From our one-pager: This course is about restoring dimension. It is opening our eyes to see liturgy forming the Body of Christ, opening our minds to see the Body of Christ as a living, social organism, and opening Scripture to see how its economic dimension has been lived and developed over Judeo Christian history. For example, by considering the always Jubilee-inflected nature of the Sabbath, the Jesus of some puzzling Gospel passages suddenly feels both more coherent and more challenging for contemporary Christian life. Finally, this course will be a forum for discussion, seeded with case studies, uncovering possibilities for a social economy of communion in our own parishes and neighborhoods.
