The Erasmus Prize is awarded annually to someone who is making an
extremely important contribution to culture, society or a social
science field. The theme of this year’s €150,000 award is the cultural
significance of the natural sciences, and the 2012 Prize is being
awarded to American philosopher Daniel C. Dennett. Dr. Dennett is
being honoured for his ability to translate the cultural importance of
science and technology to a wide audience.
