Perhaps we should be writing to TVNZ asking them to screen this and
the other Darwin-related programmes coming up on BBC.
There is going to be a swag of them (see The BBC announces a major
season marking the life and work of Charles Darwin -

The first episode of The Genius Of Charles Darwin is now online
(http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-4471435322910215458). No
doubt the rest will also go up very soon after they are broadcast.
Great news as it gives us in NZ a chgance to see this sort of thing.

I managed to download and save this video but I can't seem to play it? It
wants to play it using QuickTime but then gives me an error message saying
that QuickTime doesn't recognise this file. I'm using Windows Vista.

I can get short bits of it online but it then goes to sleep as it buffers
the next bit.

Any tips as to how to play this? Thanks.

I think its an mp4 file, so VLC will play it.  Its open source and free so give it a google.

Cheers,
a different Ken

I generally download them as flv files using FLV downloader, convert
to AVI and then to DVD format. This enables me to watch at my leisure
on TV.
Something like AVS video player or a flv player should enable you to
play the downloaded file on your computer.

Thanks Ken (Spagnolo).  I did google VLC then downloaded and installed it.  But for some reason it couldn’t open the saved file?

Then I tried clicking on the link again and lo and behold it worked just fine. It seemed to play as a Google video?  There must have been something wrong with the link or the BBC site on my first attempt.

A high quality video.  Not sure why we had to see so much of animals bonking – maybe to attract kids to watch the program!  Interesting to see Down House.

Thanks also to Ken (Perrott).  Please send us the links to the next episodes when you see them.

Tony

Go to this link (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?
p=FCC435FD85CBC4A4). It includes videos from Part1 and Part 2.
Presumably the 3rd part will be up in a weeks time.

Ken.

Here's an interesting video clip on How Vast is the Cosmos?. It's about 30
minutes long. It allows you to see and listen to some of the current
luminaries in cosmology. Paul Davies deep down is a bit religious methinks.
I figure this is near enough to on-subject for brights. The site appears to
have much more to offer though I haven't looked further yet.

I see that the (Sky) Living Channel is showing Dawkins' The Genius of Charles Darwin tonight at 11pm.  The series appears to start tonight and run for the next couple of weeks at the same time.
