One bidder remains for Samoan public broadcaster to be privatised

Reports from Samoa say only one bidder remains to take over the Samoa
Broadcasting Corporation, which is the public broadcaster about to be
privatised.

A source in the Ministry of Finance says Radio Polynesia Limited,
which is a privately owned radio station, has pulled out after
inspecting all transmitter sites for SBC television and two radio
stations. This means the Samoa Quality Broadcasting, which is owned by
several senior SBC staff and some local business people, is the only
company left.

A senior official in the Ministry of Finance says the planned
privatisation of the public broadcaster has been deferred to January.
Meanwhile, the cabinet is reportedly yet to decide on the redundancy
packages for the staff of the Samoa Broadcasting Corporation.
