Leon Gurevitch from Victoria University’s School of Design
This was a very interesting talk about photography then moving into the world of digital photography, using the EXIF information to look at the bigger trends.
He been at this university for a long time and its hard to believe out paths have never crossed until the talk last night.
Turning astro data into images
From the earliest attempts to capture the Moon with wet plate photography to the work of mid-twentieth century amateur astronomer-photographers, astrophotography has been seen as a dance between professionals and amateurs. In his talk for our May meeting, A/Professor Leon Gurevitch from Victoria University’s School of Design will ask what the history of astrophotography tells us about contemporary practices of astral image capture. By way of example, he will show us his own digital astrophotographic images taken all over the world, and introduce a large-scale image data visualisation project.
