Subject: [VintageIceRacersNY] Late '70s VW Rabbit- free to good home
Howdy all,
We dug a late '70s VW Rabbit out of a local junkyard a few years ago,
with the intention of building an ice racer. After stripping the interior,
the body turned out to be too rusty to bother with, so we never did anything
with it.
We are moving, and would like to get rid of the vehicle. The engine is
equipped with the Bosch mechanical fuel injection system, and the crankshaft
could be turned over with a wrench when I last messed with it (several years
ago). We never made any attempt to start it, and internal condition of the
engine and manual transaxle is unknown. My guess is that the vehicle was
retired due to body rust.
The Rabbit is located about 50 miles north of Utica, In the town of
Brantingham, NY. If anyone wants the whole vehicle or just the drivetrain,
you're welcome to it. I have an engine hoist, cutting torch and other tools
here, so you could pull the parts yourself, or just haul away the whole car.
We may be able to help you pull the engine, if we have the time. The rear
axle is not in the car, as the mounts on the body were rusted right off on
one side. I think the rear axle is still here. The only remaining interior
parts are dashboard related.
I can find out the exact model year and post photos on my website if
anyone is interested.
Thanks,
