Subject: Cancelled Again and Ice Report
2-13-25 Ice report.
Well, this is all sounding like a broken record but there will be no AMEC ice racing this weekend. Ben Newsom, Sal Baisley and I went and checked Pecks Lake. It is terrible, with lots of snow, 5 or more inches of slush, 5 to 8" of pretty bad ice then maybe 6 " of good ice.
We had a report earlier in the week from Josh Manke's parents who live on Lake Algonquin, and it was all slush there too. At this point AMEC's southern Adirondack lakes need a thaw and refreeze,
Next week we are supposed to be back with the Lake George Winter Carnival, and we will be checking ice probably Wednesday. It would be a 2-day race if its good. More than likely we will not be on Lake George itself, but you never know. It would be still under the Carnivals banner wherever we race in the area.
So here are some options for you this weekend.
Some of us are going out to race with the Jaffery Ice racing club in NH. They race a small oval track, but they put on a good show, have an announcer and food available on the lake. It is a Saturday race. Make sure to check before heading out to verify that they have not canceled. They have classes that our modified cars can run in, and they have a street legal car class also. Our AMEC cars are not 100% legal according to their rules but they have let us race. Look them up on Facebook.
Next is our Friends at The Sports Car Club of VT they are running an ice time trial, Saturday, on Mallots Bay up near Burlington VT. There is a post below about that. Registration is open now for that on Motor Sports Reg and will be closing soon. That's a fun event too.
Lastly if you are really lazy stay home and do nothing, or watch the Daytona 500 :-)
The photos are of our footprints and the slush on Pecks Lake. Then one of Ben, Sal, and me this morning. We look pretty happy considering such a bad ice report.
That is all for this week,
Dave
