Hi all,

Saw this URL today, and wondered if any of you could make use of it;

http://mbed.co.uk/beta

It's a USB and Ethernet accessible microcontroller for £50.

All the best,

I think most of my hardware is stuck firmly in alpha ;-) Although I
guess Bubblino is up to Release Candidate now...

I haven't made it along to any of their meetings yet (I was too busy
playing with RFID last Saturday despite being down in Cambridge when the
meeting was on) but some of the guys from mbed are involved with the
Super Happy Dev Club [1], the Cambridge equivalent of NW Hackspace
(which reminds me - we need a cooler name for the Liverpool group :-)

There's some video [2] of an mbed board being used to control a Big Trak
from a mobile phone, taken at the last meeting.

Adrian.

Yep I think we do too, I managed to check out the SHDC blog after i
found out about mbed, a guy there called Simon ford is the Technical
lead on the mbed platform.

there is one of an mbed controlling an ipod too, as well as one of
them using it as a data logger.

I sent off an email to simon, as i have managed to actually get on the
beta, but i am a bit bereft of money, seeing if we could get one
donated to the group, and saying that we would mention the project and
mbed on our website, when we have a proper one, and any of our
projects that get onto other blogs or in anything that we publish. I
haven't heard anything back yet, but i did only send it on Sunday
evening. I also asked if a lot of questions about the mbed toolchain
and where they stand in ARM.

this is an example of the mbed board posting to twitter

#include "mbed.h"
#include "HTTPClient.h"
HTTPClient http;

int main(void) {
http.auth(USERNAME, PASSWORD);
http.post("http://twitter.com/statuses/update.xml", "status=\"I'm
learning a lot about using my mbed with the internet!\"", stdout);
}

by the looks of they are really trying to get the mbed board to be as
easy to use as possible.

Simon from SHDC, the main guy doing mbed, is really interested in the
internet of things concept and would really like one of the boards to
be used. I'm still in talks trying to get us one free of charge but
its looking a little doubtful at the moment, but we'll see where it
goes after we have exchanged a few more emails.

We have one over at Stockport if you fancy coming over for a play ;)

I've asked one of my uni mates (who is on the mbed team, and got me onto
the beta when it was closed) if there is a chance of doing a multipack
for hackspaces, he said they'd have to ask sales!

I was speeking to simon, the lead developer on the mbed project.
he has said that if we build something cool and intereactive, like the
guy from bad format bar wants, and we send him a video, he will get a
small batch of them run for us made.
