Jeff

Thanks for stepping up.  I have a good lockable half rack cabinet, which would work for a smaller lower power duplexer.   A whole rack would be better to allow a high quality 6 can duplexer and PA.  I have a high quality full rack, but am not sure it can be locked.  Do you think we could negotiate a full rack?  Will Ffx Co provide emergency power?  Not to go too far, but possibly phone line as at Massey, and internet?  I'd be glad to put the specs together and be the POC.  Thanks for the clarification it's the new building.  It's good to get this site lined up, even if we find one better down the road, it could still host a remote.  What is the name and address of the new building?

Gratefully

Jeff,

I have the document you provided to me the last time we met.  Mike indicated that your equipment space requirements have been reduced to only ½ of a rack?  Can you confirm this please?  Also, can you please provide
the power requirements that you will need for the designated equipment for the PSHQ facility?  I will also need to know the type and size antenna you are wishing to have installed.  As we discussed when we last met, there are limitations on size due to zoning
ordinances and the proffers for that facility.

When you have that, please send it over to me.

Thanks.

This is a good start.

Is the roof parapet and upper floor where the equipment will go, completed yet?

If one or two of the NVFMA experts can see the space, they can start their design.

Jeff,

Is this what you were looking for?  Mike is the contact and lead for DIT on radio projects in the county.

I think the just of his answers indicates that the county will provide the space, access and time in the building to complete the work but that NVFMA needs to provide the labor, equipment and timeframe to complete
the project.

The next step should be the walk-through suggested by Mike in reference to the parties involved (DIT & NVFMA and OEM if needed).  Once the space is seen, everyone will have a better understanding of what is needed
to move forward.

A couple questions that Mike did not answer were access to the rooftop and access to the equipment.  Unless something changes, access to roof and equipment will be the same as the other building.  I think it’s
safe to assume that if won’t be free access but that scheduled and escorted access should be accommodated.

In reference to the 1/30 meeting to speak about ARES.  I would recommend Jason Trautman as he is the lead for Fairfax ARES.  I can certainly join him if necessary.

Thanks,

Sulayman

Jeff,

How big a footprint will they be allowed for the equipment, -
best to conduct a site walk once the building is ready.

How much power and what type will be present, as opposed to what will need to be installed.
best to conduct a site walk once the building is ready.

Will there be a analog or digital phone line.
Nothing provided

Who will run the antenna wires, and how, through pipe chases or do we need to hire a contractor to install
Your responsibility to perform all installations. Best to conduct a site walk once the building is ready.

What roll will the county’s radio shop have in the installation
Liaison with FMD only and oversite on methods of installation.

What are the requirements for the rooftop appearance.

What part of this cost (if any) will any County agency absorb.
None from DIT

Who will have access to the equipment

There are several other questions, but they are outside my area of expertise.

What would be very helpful would be to have a meeting sometime within the next few weeks with you, Shawn Stokes and myself from the NVFMA, one of the NVFMA’s engineers, and someone from DIT to discuss all this.

The NVFMA’s goal is to have a draft plan by the end of February.

On another note, on January 30th at 7:00 pm. we are holding a meeting for anyone interested in Amateur Radio and Emergency Services.

Would you like to come by a give a 10 to 15 minute talk to recruit for ARES?

It will take place at the Fire and Rescue Academy in room 3

Sulayman,

The NVFMA has several questions that will need to be answered so that they can prepare their plan for the move.

Gentlemen,

We have some clarification on the questions concerning amateur radio equipment owned by NVFMA and used by ARES personnel.

Fairfax County has secured space for this equipment on the top floor of the new Public Safety Police and Fire Headquarters located behind the Pennino and Herrity buildings.

Once the building has been turned over to Fairfax County, coordination with DIT (Mike Newburn) will need to take place in order to work out the details.  The equipment currently located at the Massey building will need be taken down by
NVFMS and moved to the new building.  From my understanding, NVFMS has new equipment that covers a smaller footprint.  In that case, the Massey equipment can be taken down and the new equipment installed on the new building.

One note is that the antennas on the new building will need to be in accordance with the requirements (look).  As we get closer to the opening date, this group will need to coordinate to complete the work.

If there are any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to email me or call.

Regards,

Hi all,

Please let me and the others know the material and logistical requirements to make this happen, as I or others may be able to assist. I have access to a TON of Ethernet cables and other materials that my job (and ISP)  routinely throws away. Even casters for example (to place a rack on possibly). Also, I MAY be able to finagle getting a full rack (likely with a lock), if needed,, only if one is going to the 'trash' any time soon, as they are upgrading here. Also, for the purposes and needs of NVFMA only, I have a spare HP Proliant Server if it is really needed, although, I wouldn't think so (too much power I would think). I was going to sell it, but if it can be better used for a good cause, let me know. Oh, one last thing. I have a 4x8 Harbor Freight open-air fold-up trailer that I bought and built a while ago that I used with my Jeep, but now that I have a Honda, I can't pull it (hitch & weight limitations). If anyone needs to borrow it to move the racks, or even it FF wants to purchase it from me for good, simply let me know :)
