Dear friends of Rhizome-

Harvesting Seeds: A Community Discussion on Roots and Legacy
Thursday, June 13, 7:00pm
Rhizome is many things to many people. Join us for a discussion on the roots and legacies of Rhizome. What are the functions this space has served? What ideas has it sparked? How can these seeds grow and flourish in other spaces once Rhizome transitions out at some point in the coming months? Five panelists who have collaborated, created and organized at Rhizome in different ways will share their reflections and will kick off a participatory community discussion.
Free, donations welcome

Rhizome Community Zine
Submissions are welcome through June 30th
Contribute a page to our community zine, and offer up a gift to the community that is connected through this space! Submit a story, a memory, an image, poetry, whatever you’d like to share. You can come in to the café to view other zine pages on display, and use materials we’ll provide for you to make your own page. Or you can send your submission in by email to li...@rhizomecafe.ca. Submissions should be on 8.5” x 5.5” paper (half a piece of regular, letter-sized paper.) Submissions can be in colour, but the zine itself will be reproduced in black and white. All submissions will be displayed on the wall at Rhizome throughout the month. Many (though not all, because of space) will be selected for inclusion in the print version. The finished zine will be available for purchase in July.
Thanks! See you soon!

A note on our name:
In the botanical sense, a rhizome is a root system that some plants (like lilies and orchids and ginger and bamboo) use to spread themselves about. While the roots of most plants point generally downward, the rhizome is a horizontal root system that runs parallel to the surface of the ground. The plant sends shoots up from nodes in the rhizome, creating what look like many separate plants. These seemingly unrelated individuals are actually all connected, through a system that’s not immediately visible to the eye.
