Dear Next Up BC alumni,

Hope you are all well. I’m writing with my genius board hat on. After much
delay, we are finally in the process of constituting an advisory committee
(AC) for Next Up’s Vancouver program (a similar committee already exists in
other cities where Next Up operates). We are inviting the alumni cohorts
from each annual Vancouver program to put forward nominations. Initially
(and in order to keep the committee a manageable size), we are hoping to
find one alumnus from each Vancouver cohort, so feel free to connect with
your fellow cohort members to see who is interested. If more than one person
from a given cohort wishes to join, and other cohorts put forward no
nominations, then we can open the AC to more than one person per year (and
we assume people will swap out over time).

We are also recruiting non-alumni community folks and social movement
partners for the AC, and people who will bring special expertise to the
advisory committee (in anti-oppression/decolonization work, progressive
pedagogy, fundraising, etc.). So if you have ideas for who might be a great
community person for the AC, please pass this notice on to them too.

A notice/call about the AC follows below. Hope some of you are willing to
join.

Best,
Seth
**

Next UP BC is seeking interested individuals to be part of an Advisory
Committee (AC) for our program, which is focused on social, environmental
and economic justice. The AC’s role in particular shall be to: provide local
program design advice to the local coordinator and national ED; help with
outreach for the program, especially during the program application period
and identify strong local guest presenters; help with participant selection;
help promote the program; reflect on how the program is going and potential
improvements; assist the national ED in support and evaluation of the local
coordinator; advise and assist in local fundraising for the program; assist
with connecting program participants with local leadership mentors and other
community connections (such as job placements, project opportunities, etc.).
AC members will be invited to attend Next UP program sessions to share
experience, and at the request of the local coordinator or national ED, lead
particular sessions or serve as session guest presenters. The AC will
consist of alumni representatives, and community representatives who are
part of grassroots, labour, non-profit, co-operative, and other sectors
focused on social, environmental and economic justice.

We value the contributions people from equity-seeking groups bring to our
organization, leadership, and movement building. We encourage applications
from LGBTTQ+ people, Indigenous peoples, people of colour, low-income
earners and the unemployed, immigrants and refugees, and people with
disabilities or another equity seeking group with which you identify. If you
wish to identify as belonging to an equity-seeking group(s), please feel
free to indicate so in your application.

If you would like to put your name forward for the AC, we ask you to please
send us two paragraphs. The first paragraph should be about yourself and
what you would bring to the Next UP BC advisory committee. The second
paragraph should explain why you want to be a part of the Next UP BC
advisory committee. Please also indicate if you are a Next UP alumnus and
from what year. The application deadline is April 30, 2018. Applications can
be emailed to ad...@geniusgenerations.org

Thanks!

Thanks for emailing, Shea!
Oops, I just reread the call-out more closely. I totally missed the part about checking in with your cohort!!! Big apologies! (and all the exclamations!!!!!)
I'm interested in this and have sent in my short blurb. If anyone else is interested, please let me know and we can sort it out :) It looks like more than one of us can do it as well.

Would love to hear how you are all doing :)

Sounds great to me. Let us know how you go! I’d just like someone from our crew represented.. cause you’re all smart and wonderful.

Also NU is going through some big changes right now so some alumni energy might go a long way..
