Hey folks, 

I'm helping to organize an event on Bill C-51 and Islamophobia through a newly formed group called Critical Muslim Voices. This event is super important, given how horrible this bill is and the rhetoric of Islamophobia that it's predicated on.

Critical Muslim Voices On Bill C-51: Beyond The First Wave Of Protests

Thousands of people across Canada have spoken out, written to their MPs, published editorials and analyses, signed petitions, marched and shouted in protest against Bill C-51.

While several voices have been raised against the "anti-terror" bill for its infringement on civil liberties and for chilling freedom of speech, Muslim opposition to this bill has been largely overshadowed despite its disproportionate effect on the Muslim community and racialized individuals.

Critical Muslim Voices presents an opportunity to ask the questions that others are not asking. Join us as we unpack and discuss not just the urgent political realities brought on by Bill C-51, but also the way the ongoing framing of Muslim identity has constructed and restricted Muslim issues since 9/11 -- with no end in sight.
