Greetings!!!
Hope’s Door New Beginning Center (HDNBC) is excited to announce that applications are now open for our
Youth Advisory Council—a powerful opportunity for high school students (9th–12th grade) to get involved in the anti-violence movement.
Through this council, students will:
-
Earn service hours and volunteer credit for school, organizations, and college apps
-
Learn about the nonprofit world and gain advocacy + leadership experience
-
Deepen their understanding of teen dating violence and prevention
-
Help shape HDNBC’s youth programming to ensure it meets the real needs of teens today—because Gen X can only guess what’s “slay” these days 💅
-
Have the opportunity to create and lead a community project that supports HDNBC’s mission and serves the greater community
Previous youth-led projects include:
🎬 A Youth Film Festival hosted at the iconic Plaza Theatre in Downtown Garland, showcasing six student filmmakers on the big screen
🛍️ A resale shop makeover, where members curated a teen thrift section—because nothing says style like sustainable slayage
🌱 A gardening project at both of our emergency shelters to create peaceful, welcoming outdoor spaces—because healing hits different when there’s a vibe outside 🌼✨
📣 Launching a DV prevention and awareness student group at a local Allen high school to educate and empower their peers
The application is attached (due: 6/20/25). Please share this with students, schools, and youth-serving organizations who may be interested.
For any questions or to connect further, feel free to reach out to me directly.
Thank you for helping us uplift the next generation of leaders and advocates!
Sincerely,
Megan Valdez, MSW
