Webinar on Identifying and How You Can Help

Webinar: Phenology in Focus
Dear Becky Rader,

At its core, iNaturalist is about people helping each other identify and learn about the organisms they observe, but did you know only about 10% of the iNaturalist community identifies observations for others? Join us on Thursday, November 6 at 12 pm EST (click to see in your local time) to learn more about how you can help others, even if you're not an expert. Rather than doomscroll on social media, you can positively contribute to improving our knowledge about biodiversity!

If you can't attend, this event will be recorded. Please register if you want the recording!

What You'll Learn:

How you can contribute even if you’re not an expert:
  • Learn how to find unidentified observations you can categorize, and why that helps

How Identifications work on iNaturalist:
  • How identifications contribute to the observation’s Community Taxon
  • How to add an identification at any taxonomic level

How to use the website’s Identify page to help others:
  • Use filters to find observations you can help with
  • Learn keyboard shortcuts to speed up your workflow
  • Use the Suggestions tab as an identification resource

Opportunity for Q&A: At the end of the webinar, there will be a Q&A session. Please submit your questions when you register and we’ll do our best to address them.

This is part one of a series about identifying observations on iNaturalist and is designed for those unfamiliar with identifying on iNaturalist. However, even an experienced identifier may learn something new! And it will get you prepared for December’s ID-a-thon!

Speakers:
Tony Iwane, Community and Support Coordinator
Dr. Carrie Seltzer, iNaturalist Head of Engagement

Register Today: Join us in shaping the future of biodiversity data! Don’t worry—this event will be recorded! Please register if you want the recording!

With gratitude,
Carrie Seltzer, PhD
Head of Engagement
