Many Clinical Social Workers made mistakes when they were young and are successful today. Some might argue they are more effective clinicians due to these painful life lessons as they are better able to empathize with clients in similar situations. For instance, in my early twenties I had several lapses of judgement (such as1 DUI and a marijuana possession) which resulted in misdemeanor offenses.15 years later I graduated with a 4.0 from NYU with my masters in social work and passed my board exams with flying colors. While I received my LMSW in New York, I ,unfortunately, have been denied licensure by the state board in New Jersey where I reside. Does anyone have any experience or advice as to how I should proceed in rectifying this and obtaining my Social Work license in New Jersey? I contacted NASW but they were little to no help. If any of my fellow colleagues could provide any suggestions, guidance or advice, it would be sincerely appreciated.
