I want to inform you all of an incident that happened at my workplace
on Thursday, November 08, 2007.
For now, I am not going to disclose any names (the parties and the
name of the company involved) unless I feel it is necessary. So, it
could change.
I had a disagreement with my immediate supervisor on Thursday. I am
not the biggest fan of hers and I don't like the way she manages at
all (her people skills need plenty of work). So, after feeling
mistreated by her already on a few occasions, I blew up at her. The
following day, I was written up for this incident, which I was
willing to sign until I read on;
She also included an incident which had occurred with one of my co-
workers when she wasn't my supervisor several months ago. I objected
to this tactic and she proceeded to assualt me with the fact that I
had "really, really, offended him!" Now, here comes the part you
have all been reading this for. The day before, I was brought into a
formal counsel session with her and her supervisor about that day's
incident and her supervisor concluded the meeting with "Short
people.....you have personalities."
Now, I was offended at that comment and felt that it was irrelevant
to what happened and highly inappropriate. She is African-American
and had I made a similar comment (Black people.....you have
personalties) We all know where I would be...unemployed.
Now, since I am Vice-President, I feel that I must address this
issue. The buck stops here. NOSSA was created to address situations
like this and it's now or never. I will be as civil as possible and I
will try to be objective, just as I would if I were to be in a
situation to speak on behalf of the members.
If the situation seems to go nowhere and there are no consequences
for her, we should take the next step and any step thereafter to send
the message that this will no longer be tolerated and shouldn't be in
a nation that is supposed to be about equal treatment for all.
There may be consequences for me but I am going to do what I think is
right. I would like to know what you think.
Thank you!
Chris Hamre
Vice-President
